If you know what warning signs to look for, you can tell very early on your first date if he has love potential or is just another horn-dog predator. Is he a winner or a loser? Here's how to tell:
If he is on time? Winners are prompt and respectful of your time. Losers get there when they get there. If you meet in a restaurant or bar, he should be there a little early. That's another sign of respect.
Step2
Does he come to the door? A horn-honker is a definite loser. If he comes to the door to escort you to the car, that's a winner sign. If you meet in a restaurant or bar, does he stand when you approach?
Step3
Does he treat the server respectfully? That means neither flirting with the waitress nor bullying the waiter. Winners respect others. Losers try to make others feel small.
Step4
Is he a boring big mouth?
Does he talk about himself no more than 75% of the time? (Let's face it, guys love to talk about themselves.) Most of all, does he show any interest in who you are, what you do, your background and family? Winners care about other people and want to know about them. Losers see only themselves. If at the end of the night you know his life history and he doesn't even know what you do for a living, he is a loser. Period.
Step5
Does he take off his hat inside? If not, his manners are suspect. That's a loser flag.
Step6
Does he speak respectfully about his mother? If he respects his mother, that means he just may know how to treat a woman. If he refers to his mother as a @#*&%), watch out. He is a loser.
Step7
Does he pick up the tab? Unless you agree to go Dutch treat in advance, a winner always pays for the honor of the lady's company.
Step8
Does he at least pretend that sex isn't the only thing on his mind? All guys want sex, but if he is looking for a relationship rather than a quickie or a one-night stand, he'll keep sex talk off the table (as well as out of the car and off the front porch) on your first date.
Tips & Warnings
Forget the old line about him remembering your eye color. Guys almost never notice ... unless they're trying to show off and impress (and then they write it down somewhere to remember later). He'll also almost never remember what you wore on your first date.
Keep in mind that many guys are nervous on the first date, so be understanding if he's a bit tongue-tied.
If he's a winner, he will be as unsure about the good-night kiss as you are.
