You loved the tv show and the elegant, aloof queen of the Addams family. Dress for Halloween as the spooky comedy icon, Morticia Addams. Making the costume come together is simple.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black thrift store dress
  • Black lace
  • Black wig
  1. Step 1

Scour thrift stores for the perfect Morticia dress. Tight, form-fitting black dress that reaches past your feet to the floor. If you can't find a dress that is long enough, consider buying some extra black fabric to sew to the hem to make the signature Morticia jagged spikes circling out at floor level around your feet.

  2. Step 2

Visit the fabric or craft store and find a black long-haired wig, and black lace that has a design on it with black diamonds or blotchy shapes sprinkled throughout the lace. Buy enough yardage to cover your arms.

  3. Step 3

If black dress is loose at the ankles, take a tuck from mid-knee to ankles, making it tight enough to be form-fitting, but loose enough to fit your ankles into. Turn dress inside out and sew up tuck, cutting away any extra fabric.

  4. Step 4

Attach the extra black fabric at the bottom hem of your black dress with sewing machine, needle and thread or hot glue. Fabric should be about a foot longer than ankle length. Cut V-shaped points all around the bottom of the dress to make black spikes that will stick out and circle the bottom of the dress.

  5. Step 5

Measure lace around your arms to desired tightness. Cut and sew up one seam the length of your arm. Turn inside out and sew lace arm onto the short sleeve of your black dress. Do both sides.

Tips & Warnings
  • Accessorize with a beaded necklace.
  • Don't forget Morticia's make-up. Heavy on the mascara and white face powder.
