Step 1
Think about what interests your gifted child. A child that is interested in science will likely not be intrigued by an art kit. A child that s artistically gifted may not be interested in a microscope.
-
Step 2
Step away from the toy department. Many toys are cheaply made, and the educational toys are geared toward the average child.
-
Step 3
Select ability-appropriate gifts instead of age appropriate gifts. For example, there are many cheaply made child microscopes, but the limited capability of these microscopes can frustrate a gifted child. Similarly, a paint by numbers watercolor kit will not be met with much enthusiasm.
-
Step 4
Consider tickets to an educational museum or a camp that caters to the child's interests.
-
Step 5
Don't be afraid to think out of the big box stores. The internet, university bookstores and museum gift shops can be rich sources of ability-appropriate gifts.
