Getting hitched, but want to throw a wedding that's a bit outside the box? A Halloween themed wedding could be just the thing that will have your guests talking for years to come. Here's a few pointers on how to throw a Halloween wedding.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Halloween themed decor
  • Halloween themed favors
  • A wedding date on or around Halloween
  1. Step 1

Bring on the decorations! Jack O' Lantern centerpieces, spiderweb tablecloths, a skeleton bride and groom cake-topper - there is no limit but your imagination when throwing a Halloween wedding.

  2. Step 2

What to wear? One idea is for the bride and groom to be dressed in their favorite costumes. Perhaps a famous ghoulish pair, like Frankenstein and Frankenstein's bride, or maybe even a duo of well-known lovers from history or literature. Some brides choose to wear a black wedding dress, accommpanied by blood red roses. Others choose orange and black bouquets to match the decor of the party.

  3. Step 3

What about guests? Make sure guests know well in advance (it should be indicated on their invitation) if you wish them to arrive in costume. You could even place a mask or disguise at each guest's place setting, allowing the guests to bring them home as a favor.

  4. Step 4

Have a Halloween buffet! Serve punch out of a witch's cauldron. Enjoy a vampire's blood (tomato) soup. Get a wedding cake or cupcakes decorated with Halloween colors or creatures.

  5. Step 5

Get the staff in on the act! Waiters could be dressed as vampires, the band could be werewolves, even the officiant might be willing to don a costume! You may even consider hiring local actors to wear costumes and scare up some fun on the dance floor.

  6. Step 6

Choose some spooky and fun music. Your guests can party the night away to songs like Monster Mash, Thriller or songs from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

  7. Step 7

Halloween candy on all the tables can make for excellent party favors. Give guests trick-or-treat bags so they can sample candy from each table. You may even want to have a Halloween candy buffet for guests to choose from.

Tips & Warnings
  • Artificial pumpkins, like Funkins, are a great way to make Jack O' Lantern centerpieces in advance.
  • If you have a year to plan, try shopping for Halloween decor the days following the Halloween that preceded your wedding date. You will find some great bargains!
