How to alleviate pain from shin splints

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice bag
  • Tylenol
  • Ibuprofen, Advil
  • Ace bandage
  1. Step 1

    Shin splints are common in runners, athletes and hikers. They are caused by the overuse of the muscle in the lower leg.(posterior tibialis).

  2. Step 2

    *Rest the injured muscle
    *Put ice on area to reduce swelling
    *Place an Ace bandage around that portion of the leg
    *Elevate the leg

  3. Step 3

    Rest for 3-4 days or until pain goes away.Arch supports in your shoes may alleviate a lot of this problem.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do NOT try to "walk through" the pain.
