Goopy eye infections on long haired breeds are fairly common. Here's how to treat them early without a visit to the vet.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • saline solution (contact lens re-wetting drops)
  • Terramycin (available over the counter and online)
  • Good vet as backup.
  1. Step 1

Flush dog's eye with saline a few times a day to remove gross "gunk" that builds up around eyes.

  2. Step 2

Warm compresses held over the eyes will help relieve irritation and loosen the junk built up in the fur around the dog's eyes.

  3. Step 3

Apply terramycin opthalmic ointment, approximately 1/4" ribbon, several times a day.

  4. Step 4

Monitor dog closely. If for any reason the dog worsens, or doesn't improve after several days, take the dog to the vet.
