You just got your infant's ears peirced... Here is how to AVOID any type of infection!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hydrogen Peroxide or Alcohol
  • Cotton Swab
  • Tweezers
  1. Step 1

Before you get your baby's ears peirced it is good to know that the best possible earring for your baby is one that is 24k Gold... with a 24k Gold *Plated* earring coming in a close second.

  2. Step 2

The best time to clean your baby's ears is directly after a bath when the baby is calm and relaxed. The best choice for cleaning is Hydrogen Peroxide because it still kills the germs, but it is much safer for a new baby's ears. ALthough many will use alcohol.

  3. Step 3

Take your cotton swab and soak it in the Peroxide, turn your baby's head to one side (he/she may get irritated, see tip), Grasp the earlobe and push the earring up so you can access the piercing hole. Gently swab the entire area. Repeat this process on the back side of the lobe. You may then switch to the other ear and do the same thing.

  4. Step 4

Once you have cleaned the lobes then proceed to do a good rotation of the earrings, this will ensure the hole stays fresh and there is no healing around the earring. You will want to rotate the earring clockwise a few turns and counter-clockwise a few turns. If you are having trouble grasping the earring you may use the tweezers to get a good grip, but be extremely careful when doing this and be sure to only use tweezers on the earring peice on the back side of the lobe. This will help to ensure that no painful accidents happen.

  5. Step 5

Now you are finished! DO this everyday for the first 2 weeks or so after the initial piercing... and then it is only necessary to do it every other day.

Tips & Warnings
  • If baby seems fussy that you are messing with his/her ears it helps to talk to the baby or to place a musical/colorful toy on the side in which baby's head is turned.
