How to Make Confetti Eggs for Easter

A great way to "get the wiggle" out of the kids after eating all of their Easter candy is to let them attack each other with confetti filled egg shells. To the inexperienced, this may sound alarming, but I assure you, it's quite fun. Making the eggs is a great bonding exercise with the little ones. You can use these eggs for your Easter egg hunt without having to buy and fill plastic eggs with candy or risk food poisoning with hard-boiled eggs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • eggs
  • confetti
  • food coloring or egg dye
  • tissue paper
  • glue stick

Step1
Empty your egg shells. Crack the top of the shell and pull up the cracked part of the shell with your thumb. You should have about a quarter sized hole in the top but if it's a little larger, that's OK. Pour out the contents and use immediately.
Step2
Rinse the egg shell inside and out with warm water until the residue is gone. Let the shell dry. Collect as many as you can- I've been known to make hundreds.
Step3
Decorate the shells using egg-dye or a few drops of food coloring in a cup of water. Dip the shells into the water and leave there a few minutes or until you like the intensity of the color. Let them dry on an old towel or on paper towels.
Step4
Fill the egg shells about half way with confetti. Cut tissue paper (I am partial to hot pink) into squares big enough to cover the holes in the shells. Using glue stick and a gentle touch, glue a tissue square to the top of each egg shell. Let the glue dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Start saving your egg shells early. I usually start in December when I do my Christmas cooking.
  • Keep egg cartons. You can store empty shells and your finished product safely in them.
  • I would suggest keeping the fun of smashing these things outside or you may find yourself vacuuming confetti out of your carpets for years.
