When you are a writer, sometimes the topic for you next article can elude you. Open up your mind and allow for that idea to float in at every opportunity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Open mind
  • Awareness
  • Observation
  • Pen and paper
  • Handy tape recorder

Step1
Keep the thought in the back of your mind that anything you might experience or observe during your day could become the topic of your next article. Always be on the lookout for something interesting or different to write about.
Step2
Stay abreast of current affairs. If it is making the news, people are probably interested in it. Find a new spin on the subject and mark it with your own personal style.
Step3
Observe the people around you throughout your daily activities. Was there a conversation you held or heard that was interesting? Did a child do or say something cute and innnocent? Even just one sentence you hear could be your next writing idea.
Step4
Listening to music can help in two ways. It is very possible that a lyric from a song can spark an idea. Also, listening to music can relax you and help your mind to open up and wander. Don't be surprised if an idea comes right at you out of the blue!
Step5
Driving is another way to obtain article ideas. Much like listening to music, driving has a way of letting your mind open up. Pay attention to your driving though and make that your first priority! Notice street signs or other types of signs you see during your journey. Take notice of people walking around and other unique sites.
Step6
Carry around a pen and paper or a tape recorder. That way, if you get an idea, you can record it before you forget it later!

Tips & Warnings

  • Browse the internet for interesting ideas
  • Ask your family for their ideas
  • Obsessing about your next topic can lead to writer's block
