How to Sneak Out of the House Without Waking Your Parents

While my current position is much tamer than ever before, I’d be a liar if I claimed the events of my childhood didn’t help shape the adult I’ve become. For this reason there are a number of precautions you can take so that you are able to successfully sneak out and back into your house without waking the parents.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sneak
  • preparation
  1. Step 1

Know Your Exits: Depending on where you are exiting from this is a critical element of not only knowing where to get out, but where to successfully be able to get back in without alerting the parents. While you may feel you know your exits and entrances better than anyone, you should do yourself a favor and check all these in the daylight hours, preferably when there is no one else home so you can test all the idiosyncrasies to your home: which door creaks which way and why? How far is the fall from your first floor window to the ground and what is below? You want to caution against falling into a thorny bush or too high a height.

  2. Step 2

Know Your Pets: If you have a dog that is easily woken or if your cat will begin moaning at the sight of you, you need to be sure that these animals are secured and won’t intrude on the escape. If you have a younger brother whose room you can ditch the animals in or if there is a spare room somewhere you can shut them into, that is advisable. If stowing them in an unoccupied room, you just need to be sure you are back in time to let the animal out before they wake someone else up who may notice your absence.

  3. Step 3

Know Your Neighbors: If your neighbors are up late or peer through the window often, this could be a problem as well. If you think there is one side of the house that would be more advisable for you to sneak out on, that should be taken into consideration.

  4. Step 4

Know Your Pickup: The last thing that you want is to get out of the house successfully only to find out that your pick up isn’t going to show, so you should be sure that whoever is scheduled to pick you up is not going to flake and not show. Furthermore, assuming you are not taking your own car, you should be sure that whoever you are going to meet on foot will be there to meet you also. The absolute worst thing that could happen is that you schedule someone to pick you up, secretly, and then they roll into your driveway, honk the horn, idle the engine, and blow your whole cover!

Tips & Warnings
  • Sneaking out of the house is never a good idea; but is sometimes necessary.

on 10/22/2009 I'm about to sneak out, but I need my mom to go to sleep so I can sneak the car out as well!!! :( She is a sound sleeper, and I have tested getting the car out of the garage at night w/ an innocent late-night run to the store, but it is 10:53 and she is still rummaging in the kitchen! Boooo. lol!

I had to wiki how to unstick a stuck window as well. lol! Part 1 of Mission Impossible is in effect. I NEVER snuck out in hish school, but now that I'm back from college, aka FREEDOM, I have to go to desperate measures.

Currently sitting in pjs watching tv and planning makeup/ outfit.
