Making paper clay is a process involving wetting shredded up recycle paper to a pulp, adding it into a clay mixture and then flattening it into sheets. It's a fun activity for an art project lover or for a crafty family with kids. Paper clay can be made with patience and attention to detail.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Clay slip mixture
  • Stick for stirring
  • Sheet of wire mesh
  • Shredded recycle paper
  • Watertight bucket
  • Butcher paper

Step1
Fill your watertight bucket 3/4 of the way up with shredded recycle paper. Add hot water to paper until it is saturated.
Step2
Stir paper until it becomes a pulpy mass. Add a few drops of bleach to ward off mildew.
Step3
Spread pulp onto wire mesh, squeezing out excess water. Allow to dry.
Step4
Add dry pulp to your clay slip mixture, keep adding pulp until thick, and stirring until smooth. Excess water can be sponged off the top.
Step5
Lay butcher paper on the floor. Spread paper clay mixture onto butcher paper and allow to dry.
