Don't you hate it when you miss out on the hot comic book of the year. It happens all the time. A major event or the death of a popular character sends demand for a specific issue of a comic book through the roof. Here are a few tips for locating that book without paying the ridiculous prices on eBay.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get to know the other comic book shops in the area. Just because your shop doesn't have a copy and the news sites are reporting it sold out doesn't mean other shops don't have it. Some shops are very good about ordering lots of copies so that there will be some copies on the shelf after the Wednesday of release. Other shops may do poor business or specialize in trading cards and memorabilia. Comic books sell much slower in shops that specialize in cards and not comics.

  2. Step 2

Go to the Internet. Online shops depend on constant business all week long, not just the Wednesday regulars. Some good sites to check out are:

    http://www.tfaw.com/
    http://www.mycomicshop.com/home?bhcp=1
    http://www.midtowncomics.com/ and
    http://wizarduniverse.stores.yahoo.net/

  3. Step 3

If both of those fail you, you still have one more option. Your local major chain bookstore may have what you’re looking for. Stores like Borders or Barnes and Noble usually have a limited selection of newsstand comic books. These mostly sell to random passers by and not to hardcore collectors. Very often when collectors have completely cleaned out the local comic shops and Internet sites, the local major chain bookstore will still have a few copies left.

Tips & Warnings
  • To save time going from shop to shop, call them. Most shops will be happy to hold a copy for you if you call.
  • The longer you wait, the less likely you are to find a copy.
