You have just purchased a new cuckoo clock and are ready to take it out of the box. Here are some tips to help you do that and to make sure your clock is set up right.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Level

Step1
Gentle take the pieces out of the carton and lay down the clock with the face downwards. Put a screwdriver into the slit and gently lift out the back panel. Take away the paper strip from the spring. There will be a clamp on one or both of the bellows. Remove them. After replacing the back panel place the carved head-piece onto the clock.
Step2
Hang up the clock on a nail or screw. Make sure the nail or screw is high enough up on the wall so that the weights won't hit the floor. Take the chains out of the packet. Make sure you don't set the clock down or put it upside down as the chains make come off the wheel.
Step3
Remove the wire to the cuckoo clock door or doors. Attach the pendulum to the loop on the bottom of the clock. Put the clock on the wall and use a level to make sure it is not tilted as this will interfere with the pendulum movement. Put the weights on the clock. Do this before you start the pendulum.
Step4
Setting the correct time by turning the minute-hand, which is the longer hand around to the left. Don't move the hour hand.
Step5
Push the pendulum to start the clock. If the pendulum stops, the clock may be slightly crooked. Using the level straighten the clock and start the pendulum again. You wind the clock by simply pulling the chains. If the clock gains time slide the pendulum wood piece, which is usually a leaf down and if the clock looses time slide the leaf up.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the chain falls away from the wheel, it probably will be necessary to have a professional put the chain back on, as there are little parts inside the clock that may get damaged or bent if you do it yourself.

on 6/7/2008 LOL... reminds me of when my dad got my mother a beautiful cuckoo clock for Christmas... They set it up and waited for it to chime. And waited. And waited. Finally, they took it to a specialized clock repairman, who showed them that there was a switch on the back that could be set to "Silent" or "Chime" - in GERMAN! He didn't charge them for the "repair!"
