Mike has a sinus headache

There are three main reasons why we suffer from sinus headaches: allergies, colds and infections. These allergies can be a seasonal thing or they can be year round. Colds are caused from viruses we encounter. They can run from 5 to 7 days. If the cold
does not clear up on its own infection can also occur. Infection should be treated with antibiotics from your doctor.

The usual pain and pressure that develops because of a sinus headache will start in your cheeks, around your eyes and nose. But it can also extend to your temples, make you feel like you have a toothache and can even cause an ear ache to develop. This pain can be severe enough that it is actually painful to touch.

This pain causes the headache to occur because mucus from our nose is being blocked. This pain then turns into pressure that builds until the nerve endings in our head are effected and thus the headache will begin.

Sinus blockage can also led to a stuffy nose. This is also caused from that blocked mucus. Thus, to relieve the pain and pressure we need to unblock that nose and those sinus cavities.

Instructions

Start with something simple. Try using heat to decompress those sinus cavities. You can do this by taking a shower or bath and allowing the steam to soak into your. You could also try placing a hot compress right onto the spots that hurt. To make a hot compress put a soft cloth into the microwave for a few seconds, depending on how quickly your microwave heats. Be careful, you do not want to get burn. You could make one the old fashion way and actually put a cloth under some hot water, wring out the excess water and place onto the painful areas.

Repeat as needed or try with cold water, too.

If step one didn't help or if the pain returned, you may need to try something else.

If you are one of those people who hate taking real medicines, you do have some options that are natural.

Can you stomach Jalapeno peppers? This is a great time to eat one. It can drain your sinuses within minutes.
Can't handle that much spice? Then try eating some chili or something else with a bit of kick in it.

Try peppermint oil. You can buy this at any good pharmacy or health food store. The smell of peppermint oil can actually work like a decongestant. The best way to this is by steaming some hot water with a few drops of peppermint oil within it. Breathe the scent into your nose and lungs. If you can do so without burning yourself, place a towel over your head as you breathe in the oil.
This is a sure way that you are getting the most out of the oil. Do turn off the stove, first.

If the natural ways did not work or if you want faster action, start with saline drops. These should be placed into your nose two to three times a day.

    • 4

Reach for the decongestant. Make sure it is one that you can take. Read the fine print. If you are taking any prescriptions or have any other health issues talk to your pharmacist or doctor first.

Be careful while taking these. They can make you drowsy, nervous, and dizzy.

    • 5

If all else fells, go to see your doctor. The pain and pressure in your sinus cavities may be an infection. Infections need antibiotics to treat them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to burn yourself when using hot water.

  • Turn the stove off if you heat the water on the stove

  • If the pain and pressure continues, seek the advice of a doctor. You may have an infection.

  • If you are taking any medications or have a health condition seek the advice of your pharamicist or doctor before taking any drugs, including over the counter aides such as decognestatnts.
