Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • comfortable shoes
  1. Step 1

Start in Wenscelas Square - Vaclavske namesti- the medieval horse market turned consumer paradise and the largest square in the city. You can grab a Prague culinary classic - a fried cheese sandwich - from one of many stands around the square before setting off.

  2. Step 2

Take a right up Na prkope till you reach Celetna and the Powder Tower - Prašná brána. This beautifully restored gothic tower was originally gateway leading to the Charles Bridge (Step Five ) to Prague Castle (Step Six).

  3. Step 3

Walk through the Powder Tower gateway and take a left down Celetna to the massive Old Town Square - Staromestské námesti - the heart of the city. The Square is a pedestrian zone. Make sure to compare the Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Tyn with the restored Baroque St Nicholas Church. Do not miss the 15th Century Astronomical Clock which not only still functions, but informs on astrological events, but celebrates every hour with chimes and wooden puppets.

  4. Step 4

Walk west up Kaprova towards the Vltava river till you reach the neo-renaissance Rudolfinum concert hall, home of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

  5. Step 5

Take a left following the Vltava River (should be on your right) along the Nnzovnicka to the gothic Charles Bride – Karluv most – over the river. Take time to look at the giant stone statues of religious figures and icons which flank the bridge. Touching one will is said to bring you luck.

  6. Step 6

Cross the bridge and continue on Mostecka, follow the road to the right and take a left on Nerudoa. Take a right on Radnicke schody, and a left on Kanovnicka which will leave right at the massive grounds of Prague Castle - Prazsky hrad. This is Prague's most popular tourist attraction and the largest ancient castle in the world. On the castles grounds make sure to take in the spectacular Basilica of St. George, the Prague Cathedral, and the Lobkovic Palace.

  7. Step 7

Buy your entrance tickets at the information centre located in the Third Courtyard or at any ticket offices located at the castles main sights.
