Things You'll Need:
- 1 underground yellow jacket nest
- 2-4 gallons of gasoline
- 1 spare shop rag
- 1 long-neck funnel
- 1 10-foot pole
- 1 match and lighter
- 1 garden hose with a powerhead (safety precaution)
-
Step 1
Soak the shop rag in gasoline the night before you plan to extract the nest.
-
Step 2
Starting before dawn, when the nest is least active, attach the match to the end of the 10 foot pole.
-
Step 3
Roll up the shop rag with the funnel inserted all the way through it. Plug the hole to the nest with the rag so that it fits snugly into the hole.
-
Step 4
Pour all of the gasoline into the hole. Remove the funnel and plug the opening in the rag with a short stick to prevent the escape of any yellow jackets.
-
Step 5
Standing 10 feet from the hole, light the match on the end of the pole and carefully light the end of the rag. Seek cover immediately.
-
Step 6
This will give you a good head-start on a goldfish pond.If needed, use the hose to quickly put out any resulting fire. You may also want to fill in the resulting 3-foot crater in your lawn.
