You are working on an Adobe Illustrator project and now you would like to insert an Adobe Photoshop PSD file into your stage. If this isn't something that is easy for you, it will be after you read this eHow.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe CS3 - Photoshop and Illustrator
  1. Step 1

    Open Adobe Illustrator CS3.

  2. Step 2

Locate a file on your computer you would like to insert and then make a note where that file can be found.

  3. Step 3

From inside Adobe Illustrator: Go to File > Place

  4. Step 4

Pick your Adobe Photoshop file from "Step 2" above and hit the place button. This should insert your Adobe Photoshop document onto the stage.

Tips & Warnings
  • This will insert a proportionally sized version of your PSD file onto the canvas that you can move around, resize, trace, or edit.
  • You can also use this method to insert other type files into Illustrator.
  • You can also edit the original (or linked) file in Illustrator by clicking “Edit Original” while selecting the newly placed file.
  • When you edit the original files from inside Illustrator and then save them; keep in mind you are changing the original files.
