Kids are usually very excited about their first dance class, but they may also be a little anxious. Preparing your child for her first dance class can help her feel at ease and have her waving goodbye and twirling into the dance studio on her own in no time. Follow these tips on how to prepare your child for her first dance class.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attend the dance studio's open house. This trip enables your child to see the studio before her first class. She may even be able to meet her teacher at this time.

  2. Step 2

Tell him what to expect during dance class. Ask the teacher or studio owner if you do not know. Explain the class structure to him. For example, say, "First you have circle time, then you have ballet at the barre, and then you learn how to do turns."

  3. Step 3

Purchase the dance wear and shoes she needs before her first dance class. Make sure to get a proper fit for her dance shoes by going to a dance supply store. Check the dance studio's dress code so that your daughter dresses appropriately for class.

  4. Step 4

Ask for a copy of the dance studio rules. Go over the class rules before his first dance class to prepare him for the class.

  5. Step 5

Let your child go into the studio on her own on her first day of dance class. Explain to your child that the parents wait outside while the kids dance. You want to foster independence in your child and you have prepared her well for her first dance class.
