Wooden fishing lures are relatively easy to make. All the things you need to make them can be found around the house. Simple top water lures are the easiest fishing lures to make out of wood.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5-inch piece of broom handle
  • 2 eye screws
  • Split ring
  • Treble hook
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint
  1. Step 1

Cut 5 inches from the top of an old broom handle. It can be really old wood, as long as it's not rotted.

  2. Step 2

Round the end of the broom handle piece with a file. The other end must be sloped with a rounded tip. Sand it out with fine grade sandpaper until it is smooth.

  3. Step 3

Paint your lure to look like something that a fish might like to eat. You can paint it yellow and green so it appears to be a lizard. Allow it to dry.

  4. Step 4

Attach an eye screw to the scalloped end of the wooden fishing lure. It needs to be right in the center. Make sure it is screwed in tight.

  5. Step 5

Screw another eye screw into the rounded head of the other end. Add a split ring to the eye screw. Attach a treble hook and you're ready to go fishing with the wooden fishing lures.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can easily build jitterbug fishing lures when you build the wooden fishing lures. Just cut a handle off of a spoon and drill a hole in the center of the scooped part of the spoon. Attach it to the scalloped end of the wooden fishing lure and fasten the eye screw through it into the lure.
