How to Make an Egg Carton Caterpillar
Making caterpillars using egg cartons is a great way to share quality time with your children while teaching them creativity. This project is easy for very young children and allows them to be part of a creative activity.
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Scissors
- Toothpick
- Pipe Cleaners
- Glue stick
- Eyes - Googly ones are a nice touch
- Crayons, markers, or paint

Cover your work area with the newspaper. Cut either 3 or 6 cups from an egg carton to form the caterpillar body. Remember not to cut in between each cup, you should have a strip of cups.

Using a toothpick, an adult should make 2 small holes in the top of one of the cups that makes the end of the chain. This will be the caterpillar's antennae holes.

Thread a pipe cleaner through the holes. The ends can be curled if you wish to form curly antennae.

Use glue stick to add eyes. The googly eyes that shake are great as it gives the face character.

After the glue has dried, draw or paint a mouth and eyes on the cup that has the antennae.

Use the colored markers, crayons, or paint to decorate the rest of the body. Let children do this on their own and encourage self-expression.

Using scented markers will not only look pretty, it will smell wonderful, too.
Children should never work with sharp objects without adult supervision.
