Swiss wine is one of the country's best-kept secrets. Located among some of the most famous wine producing countries in the world, the Swiss have taken elements from the French, German and Italian histories of wine making. The result is a large selection of some of the finest wines in the world for you to choose from.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a trip. Most of the best Swiss wines never leave the country, so for the full selection you'll have to go to them. There are many wine tours that can give you access to many different types of grapes, and offer tasters from the region you are visiting. Book through a travel agent or online (see Resources below) and combine your wine research with the historic beauty of Switzerland.

  2. Step 2

Choose your grapes. Swiss wines use almost every grape variety you can imagine. To make your choice easier, narrow down the selection according to grape variety. Choose grapes you are familiar with and know you enjoy. Once you have decided on whether you prefer a sylvaner or pinot blanc, find out which wineries supply these.

  3. Step 3

Contact the source. As less than 1 percent of all Swiss wine is available for export, some of the best choices are still not widely available. By starting at the source, you will have more to choose from and also get more in-depth information about your wine choice. Find a list of growers and sellers online (see Resources below); many of them will ship to you, especially if you buy in bulk.

  4. Step 4

Compliment your tastes. Unless you are choosing wine to collect, make a selection that you will enjoy. If you prefer a chardonnay to a pinot noir, then choose the chardonnay. Make choices that you will enjoy drinking and that compliment your meal choices and palette.

Tips & Warnings
