Driving comes with it's own set of hazards. However, driving on a small mountain road can be extra dangerous. With narrow, windy roads, the driver must proceed cautiously and be prepared for sudden changes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Be patient when stuck behind a leisurely driver. Don't try to pass quickly by looking to see around the vehicle in front of yours. Life is not worth risking over the few extra minutes it will take to get where you're going.
Step2
Don't race on small mountain roads. They are not meant for driving fast. Save your life and drive the speed limit.
Step3
Watch out for crazy reckless drivers on small two-lane mountain roads. If someone behind your vehicle is driving too closely, get out of the way. If the shoulder is not wide enough, wait until it is safe.
Step4
Proceed slowly around the curves. Oncoming traffic can be on your side or your car might be slightly overturning. Watch closely and stay in your own lane hugging the side opposite traffic.
Step5
Look out for wildlife darting into the road, particularly near wooded areas at night.
Step6
Prepare for sudden weather changes in the mountains. Tire pressure and tread should be checked to make sure you have better grip in snow or rain. Patches of ice appear out of nowhere in these elevations.
Step7
Yield to traffic going uphill is common practice in the mountains. Turn your headlights on when it is cloudy or as soon as sunlight begins to fade.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that reckless driving can leave you literally breathless.
  • Your cell phone might not work in many areas, so carry a kit in the car for emergencies.
