How to Stop Bad Eating Habits
You don't have to look far to find food that is bad for you. Just walk up the block in almost any commercial area in almost any city in the Unites States. Bad food, it's everywhere. You can't stop its proliferation, but you can stop indulgining bad eating habits.

1
Allow yourself one or two snacks each day that contain 100 to 300 calories each. Instead of choosing chips or cookies, eat something more substantial, such as a small sandwich or handful of nuts. Remember that denying yourself food will only cause you to overeat.

2
Slow down. People who eat faster consume more calories because their brain doesn't have the chance to recognize that the stomach is full. Instead of choosing finger foods that can be eaten quickly, always eat food from a plate with utensils. Salad is an excellent choice since the bulk of it fills you without ramping up the calories or clogging your arteries. Drink water throughout your meal.

3
Examine if you are an emotional eater. Instead of eating your troubles away, confront what's really bothering you. Try distracting yourself from your bad mood by participating in a non-food activity, such as taking a walk or working on a hobby. If you were fed a lot of junk food as a child, you will probably seek it out for comfort if you're stressed. Be aware of that and consider healthier options.
-
4
Decide not to be a social eater. Instead of hosting a party that revolves around food, plan a get-together that focuses on an activity, such as a game night or pool party.
-
5
Be committed. Breaking a habit takes up to 3 weeks and, for most people, it's difficult. Override your bad eating habits with positive replacements. Instead of reaching for salty chips, eat a handful of pretzels or air-popped popcorn. If you can't give up that evening bowl of ice cream, try frozen yogurt or sorbet.
