Modern Army Combatives is the art of controlled aggression. The modern battlefield can be a fluid environment and soldiers must be prepared to escalate force at a moment's notice. The training involves hard and demanding physical training and intense mental focus.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Maintain mental calm and situational awareness throughout the fight. This is easier said than done, but it is possible. It is important to stay calm and don't struggle too much.

  2. Step 2

Make use of suppleness and leverage rather than struggling and trying to overpower your opponent.

  3. Step 3

Keep a steady base and physical balance. When you are off balance you are in a weak position and are easier to attack. However, if your center of gravity is low and your base wide, you can get the leverage you need to take down a larger, stronger opponent.

  4. Step 4

Find and maintain dominant body position. Dominant position is a broad category of holds and bars that a fighter must attain and hold before disarming or disabling techniques may be applied.

  5. Step 5

Control distance, if your opponent wants to fight in close, keep him back. If he wants to grapple, keep him back with strikes. Make a fight happen on your terms.

  6. Step 6

Be sure and aggressive about your actions. Conserve energy throughout your fight. When you act, use speed, violence and accuracy to effectively end the engagement.
