Teaching your family to use all the things the library has to offer can enrich their lives. From DVD's to computers, audio books and classes, the library has many ways to supplement anyone's education.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Look for educational offerings when you visit the library. Libraries usually have a newsletter, display board or pamphlets about upcoming classes and how to register.
Step2
Watch for free programs for your kids. Children's librarians work hard to offer interesting programs throughout the year for children of all ages.
Step3
Use the library computers for games, word processing and the Internet. This is a great tool if you don't have a home computer, or your kids want to spend some time playing educational games.
Step4
Check out DVDs and videos from the library's collection. These collections have many new titles as well as a great selection of classics. Borrowers can keep most movies for a week.
Step5
Encourage children to use the hands-on areas. Many libraries have great updates in children's areas that offer fine motor and gross motor educational games.
Step6
Borrow books on CD for your next road trip. Libraries have large collections of audio books for adults and children.
Step7
Have a cup of coffee. Many modern libraries have cafes serving coffee and other beverages and snacks. Some even have a full menu for breakfast and lunch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't forget to check out books while you're at the library. With all the new offerings libraries have, sometimes its easy to forget to pick up a great novel to read between visits.
  • Sign your kids up for story time. Most children's sections provide free story time and activities for preschoolers during the school year.
