How to Keep an Infant Safe in a Baby Swing
When you keep your infant securely strapped in his baby swing at all times, and observe routine safety practices while the swing is in use, you can protect your baby from sustaining injury. Follow these steps to ensure your baby is safely enjoying his swing.

1
Ensure that the swing has safety straps. Buckle or strap your baby into the swing before turning it on.
-
2
Move the swing into the newborn recline position so your infant can lay back far enough so that he doesn't slouch and can breathe freely.
-
-
3
Set the speed of the swing to its lowest setting when your baby is very young to avoid scaring him with a sudden, rapid movement and to ensure he isn't ejected.
-
4
Check the weight limit for the swing. Once your baby becomes too heavy for it, do not place him in the swing, as it can collapse. Many swings have a weight limit of between 15 and 20 pounds.
-
5
Make certain that your baby's swing has a wide base so it won't tip over if your baby leans to one side.
-
6
Keep watch over your infant at all times while he is enjoying the swing. Never leave him unattended, even for a minute.

Tips & Warnings
Check that your baby swing is still safe for your baby if you own an older model or if you received one as a hand-me-down. Call the Consumer Product Safety Commission at 1-800-638-2772 to check the status of your baby swing.
Do not put your baby in the swing immediately after he's finished eating, as the motion of the swing may cause him to spit up his meal.
