Hypnotherapy is used for a variety of problems. While in a highly relaxed state, mental suggestion is introduced to help you control your mental, emotional and physical processes. Whatever issue you are trying to solve with hypnosis, finding a good hypnotherapist should be a step in the right direction.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Contact associations such as The American Psychotherapy and Medical Hypnosis Association. You may have an association for your state that will be helpful as well.

  2. Step 2

Look for a hypnotherapist that specializes in what you're interested in addressing.

  3. Step 3

Interview several hypnotherapists over the phone. Ask questions about whether they are certified or licensed and address your specific situation. Most will offer a face to face interview as well.

  4. Step 4

Use your first meeting with the therapist to explain in detail what you're seeking. After a trial exercise, you'll have a better feel for the process. You'll also be able to tell if you are comfortable with the therapist himself.

  5. Step 5

Practice any self-hypnosis exercises given to you. These may include relaxation techniques such as deepening which is counting yourself down to a relaxed state. Positive statements or suggestions to use during the session and how to bring yourself back to an alert state.
