Contact The American Psychotherapy Association and Medical Hypnosis Association. You may have an association for your state that will be helpful as well.

Interview several hypnotherapists over the phone. Ask questions about whether they are certified or licensed, and ask about your specific situation. Most will offer a face to face interview as well.

Teach yourself to use hypnotherapy or practice the take home exercises your therapist recommends. Find a place where there will be not distractions or interruptions. Completely relax starting in sections from your head down to your toes.

Step 4
Count backward from ten or imagine yourself walking down stairs becoming relaxed with each step. Choose a phrase like, "I am safe and peaceful in my life," and repeat it in a calm but confident voice. Use beautiful, calming scenes to accompany the mantra.
