If you haven't settled on an anti-virus software suite, consider downloading trial versions of different programs before buying one. AVG, perhaps better known for their free security utilities, offers a series of programs that can be downloaded as trial versions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Head to the AVG homepage (see Resources below). Click the tab labeled "Products."

  2. Step 2

Browse through the products and pick one that best fits your Internet or network security needs. Consider a program that offers real-time scanning and a firewall, two of the most effective ways to guard against infection.

  3. Step 3

Click on the product you want to try and browse through its information page. Review the program's features to make sure that it offers the functionality that you need.

  4. Step 4

Look to the right of the product's summary and click the link labeled "Try."

  5. Step 5

Scroll down to the bottom of the trial options page, fill out your e-mail address, select the program version and click "Continue."

  6. Step 6

Read through the paragraph that asks you to verify your data. Click "Continue."

  7. Step 7

Click the link to the program's installer under the "Installation Files" banner.

  8. Step 8

Run the executable installer file by either saving it to your hard drive or running it directly from the AVG website.
