Download a trial or buy a subscription. You can download the Anti-Malware suite from AVG's website and use the product free for 30 days. To purchase the product, visit the AVG site, select your subscription length, computer platform and license type. Buy the program straight away.

Adjust the programs settings. Once you have downloaded and installed the program, choose from protection levels across all protection types. For example, the program offers an email scanning feature that scans every email. If you tightly guard your email addresses, this feature might be overkill. You also can set daily scans at late-night or early morning hours so your program can run in the background.

Check on your updates. AVG offers a setting that will download updates daily. Since updates are critical to the program's performance, make sure that your downloads are updated. Go to AVG's control center and click on the "Updates" section to check that you have the latest definitions, patches and protection.
