Step 1
Review your computer's system requirements. Make sure that you have Windows 2000, XP (home or professional) or Me. Your computer's processor speed should have at least 300 megahertz, 128 megabytes of RAM and 200 megabytes of disk space.

Click "Start Download" if you bought Norton PC Personal Firewall as a download. Click "Save" to save the program to your desktop. Wait for the "Setup.exe" icon to appear. Click "Start," save the setup file and hit "OK." The program will download, followed by automatic installation.

Click "Install" once the Norton download has finished. Select "Next" once the Welcome panel or screen appears. Read the license agreement that appears in the next window. Click "I Accept the License Agreement" if you agree to the terms of the software usage.

Hit "Next" to go to the next window. Choose to install Norton Personal Firewall with the recommended common settings. You also can customize it with parental control or other account settings. Go to "Browse" to select the folder from which Norton PC Personal Firewall will be installed and stored onto your PC, or use the default file location. Choose "Next" to proceed with the installation.

Restart Windows so that the changes will take effect. Your computer will not be firewall-protected until you restart it. After you restart your computer, select "Finish" at the Norton window to complete your installation.

Install Norton PC Personal Firewall from the CD if you purchased the software package in-store or online. Put the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. Then, when the welcome screen appears, select "Install Norton Personal Firewall."

Follow Steps 3 and 4 to read the software license agreement and to install the firewall. Restart your computer. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.
