Step 1
Take on the new motto: Make every client feels like he or she is the most valuable person in the world. Customer service is critical in this job and you must treat all people with excellent customer service skills. You must like people and constantly be in contact with them in this role.
-
Step 2
Check out online courses and concierge courses that are offered through local schools or community service. Usually a concierge will have to have some security experience to know how to protect the guests of the hotel or the owners in an apartment complex.
-
Step 3
Know the difference between an apartment concierge and a hotel concierge. In an apartment complex, a concierge might be responsible for security and also have to walk around the grounds to make sure they are safe for the owners or guests. In a hotel, a concierge might be responsible for giving car rental or local area recommendations to the guests.
-
Step 4
Choose who you want to work for. You do not have to be a concierge just for a hotel company or an apartment building. You can become a personal concierge, a concierge for an executive corporation, non-profit corporations or even for celebrities if the chance arises.
-
Step 5
Realize that you will be constantly asked for your services and that personal time will be limited. When you become a personal concierge, you might even be on call at times and be called for advice when you are at home. Make sure you are prepared for this reality.
-
Step 6
Apply to hotels, corporations and non-profit organizations. A concierge can be paid anywhere from $30,000-$100,000 after training, depending on the property and your experience and skills. Do your research before accepting a low offer.
