How to Make a Merlin Costume
For aficionados of Arthurian legend, Merlin the sorcerer would be a good choice for a costume. Whether it's Halloween or just a theme party, a Merlin can make a great addition to the ambiance. Merlin served a crucial role in bringing up King Arthur, and his legacy inspired visual artists to create a definite caricature, adding to the mystique of his character.

1
Get a beard. Images show Merlin with a full, snowy white beard--the longer the better. Maybe you can dig out an old Santa Claus beard for the occasion.
-
2
Get a pointed hat. Many images of Merlin show him wearing a hat at least 1 or 2-feet tall, tapering into a fine point, sometimes with a wide brim. The hat is commonly a dark blue color.

3
Find a gown to match. Merlin's gown is generally a dark blue, just like the hat; the robe should cover the entire body.
-
4
Add celestial symbols to your garments. Some images show Merlin wearing a lot of iconic moons, suns and stars (yellow patches) on his hat and gown, symbols of his power to control earthly events through the study of the constellations.
-
5
Find "wizard" accessories. Some pictures show Merlin with a simple wooden staff, something seen in the hands of many sorcerers for use in rituals. Other accessories could include a chalice, rod or scepter, or a short sword.
