Instructions

    • 1

Use a lower number club, if you're not already using a driver. Apply the normal amount of strength when you swing the club. Trying to hit the ball harder usually causes an error when you make contact with the ball.

    • 2

Move the position of the ball. A normal drive would be hit off the left, or front, foot. When hitting into a head wind, move the ball back in your stance, hitting at chest level. This keeps the ball lower to the ground avoiding some of the wind.

    • 3

Positions your hands to press forward when you swing. Give the ball some extra, low flying spin.

    • 4

Tee the ball up about one and a half inches farther from your body. Make your swing flatter, keeping the ball lower to the ground.

    • 5

Choke down on the club slightly and use a three-quarter swing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Slices and hooks are amplified by a head wind, so take this into consideration if playing either of these.

  • Avoid teeing the ball up differently. The only result is poor contact with the ball when you hit it.

  • Don't try to kill the ball to get it through the wind. This will only set you up for a miss hit.
