Step 1
Look around your yard to find where exactly you plan on planting these plants for your flower garden. Depending on the exact location, you will need to select different plants to grow. Some plants need direct sunlight while others need to be in complete or partial shade.
-
Step 2
Browse online or take a trip to your local library after you select the area outside where you want to plant your plants for your flower garden. If you chose a shady area, you must research which type of plants grow best in the shade. If you are planting your garden in the full sun, you must find some plants that grow best in these conditions.
-
Step 3
Take a picture of the area that you are planning to plant your flowers for your garden.
-
Step 4
Take a trip to your local nursery with a picture that you took so that the workers at the garden center can help select the plants for your flower garden. Often times they are experts in this field and can visualize what would look good in the selected spot. They can also assist you with deciding if you should choose annuals or perennials.

Step 5
Discuss with the garden center worker types of symbolic flowers that you would like to plant in your garden. If your significant other has a favorite flower or plant, it would be special to plant that in the garden if possible.
