Step 1
Look for carnival companies that are hiring. These can be found on the Internet or through city offices where permits are granted for carnivals.
-
Step 2
Apply online for large carnival companies that hire throughout the year.
-
Step 3
Prepare to submit to mandatory drug screening when applying to larger companies.
-
Step 4
Enjoy living out of a trailer in a different town every 10 to 12 days.
-
Step 5
Be available to pull up stakes and travel for at least six months out of every year. Some carnival companies work year round, following the warm weather.
-
Step 6
Have good enough health to work 12 hours or more per day in a variety of weather conditions and climates.
-
Step 7
Understand that working for a carnival pays very little. Carnival employees sometimes have to pay for lodging which also cuts into their profits.

on 1/19/2009 This is a good article, but Step 4 is misleading.
You may not have a trailer to live in unless you provide it, and if you do be prepared to pay for the dings -- electric, water, spot rent. Some people live in tents, or in their game, or under their ride or wherever they can find!
