1
Decide whether you want your avatar to be a representation of you or just a mixture of different images you feel represents you. Pick a picture of you or four or five images that represent your personality to reference while making your avatar.
-
2
Search online for an avatar making website; there are quite a few, if your favorite TV show is The Simpsons, then type "The Simpsons avatars." Search for "icon maker" if you want to use pictures and not have the avatar represent you physically.

3
Assess whether you are well versed enough to use a program like Photoshop or another computer graphic program. Upload the picture you want to use as your real life avatar into the program and crop the picture to encompass one main part of it, too much detail will be difficult to see.
-
4
Change the pixels on the photograph; go to the Image menu and select image size. Enter "132" in the width category and it will automatically change the height to 132.
-
5
Save the image as a .jpeg or .gif file and name it in a folder you can easily access. If you made an avatar using an Internet program, then follow the instructions of the website to create your real life avatar.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using a picture of yourself choose one that is relatively free of other objects or people or else the avatar will look convoluted.
Play around with the effects on the picture to create a more unique avatar; make it black and white or polarize the picture.
You can choose to make your avatar smaller if you want (anything under 60 pixels is going to be a bit small however).
