How to Wear a Halter Dress

While the halter is an increasingly popular and sexy style on its own, there are a number of things you can do to make a halter dress stand out and look spectacular on you. Though the style is especially beneficial for those with large chests, halter dresses look good on a wide range of body types.

1. Analyze your body type. Though all halters are basically the same shape, subtle differences in the strap width can make a difference. Rule of thumb: Thicker people should wear thicker straps and those with a smaller frame can get away wearing smaller straps.

2. Balance out your shape. Make sure the bottom of your halter dress complements the top. The skirt length should be at least knee length and pull away from your body. Since a halter is more revealing on top, it should be less revealing on the bottom.

3. Add appropriate undergarments. A strapless bra will work with many halter dresses, but one with adjustable straps that can go under the dress straps might work as well. You might need to consider stick-on foam cups if your dress is very low cut or has a low back.

4. Add accessories. A bright handbag and shoes look good with dark, solid halter dresses and big earrings also complement the style. Stay away from necklaces. They are usually not needed with a halter dress because the shape of the straps already draw attention to your chest and face, doing what a necklace is intended to do. A bracelet that matches your earrings would also look nice.
