From slick-fielding second baseman to World Series hero, Bill Mazeroski played roles in his baseball career that took him all the way to the baseball Hall of Fame. If you want to model your style of play after this Pittsburgh Pirates legend, you'll need to be a smooth fielder and a consistent player that your team can depend on.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Play second base. Bill Mazeroski played second base for his entire baseball career, playing only three games at third base.

  2. Step 2

Focus your game on fielding. Bill Mazeroski is known as the best defensive second baseman in Pirates history, if not in all of baseball history. To play like him, sacrifice your body by diving for balls. Make strong, accurate throws. Play your position as flawlessly as you can.

  3. Step 3

Turn double plays with frequency. Bill Mazeroski led the National League second basemen in double plays eight years in a row. Batters did not want to hit the ball to him when a runner was on first base because he was likely to get the twin killing. If you want to play like him, you need to focus on turning two as often as you can.

  4. Step 4

Be a consistent hitter. Bill Mazeroski was not known as being a great hitter, but he was consistent. If you find yourself getting into a hitting slump, do what you can to correct your problem quickly so that you can stay consistent.

  5. Step 5

Come up big when you are on a big stage. Bill Mazeroski is famous for hitting a home run to win the World Series in 1960. Even though he wasn't known for his hitting, he hit one of the most famous home runs in baseball history. If you want to play like him, you need to keep your cool under pressure and get the big hit in the big game.
