Like everyone else, you probably have a handful of lone socks and you're hoping that one day the mate shows up. It's time to give up hope and find something useful for those socks. The following suggestions give several ideas to recycle socks and give them a second life.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Store breakables or collectibles safely. Slide each one into a sock to prevent items from colliding and chipping.

  2. Step 2

Cover shoes when packing them into a suitcase. Slip a sock over each shoe to protect clothing and other packables.

  3. Step 3

Prevent marks on the wall from a ladder. Slip a sock over each of the top ends of the ladder.

  4. Step 4

Clean rough plaster walls with nylon or Ban-Lon socks. Ball up the socks for a good scrub without leaving any fibers or other bits behind.

  5. Step 5

Store safety goggles, which are too large for an eyeglass case, in a sock to protect them from scratches. Nail a sock to the wall near the workbench to create a permanent home for the goggles.

  6. Step 6

Wash small stuffed animals in a sock. Slide the sock over the toy and tie the end shut to keep button eyes and other decorations from coming loose in the washer.

  7. Step 7

Slip a pair of socks on your hands to clean blinds and shutter slats. Spritz on a little dusting spray and run the socks over the slats to remove the dust. Use the same technique for cleaning corners, crevices, figurines and hard to reach areas.
