Things You'll Need:
- Boiling jelly
- Fork or spoon
- Clean jelly jars
-
Step 1
To test to see if jelly is done, take a silver fork and dip it into the jelly.
-
Step 2
Pull it out. Look closely at the fork. When the jelly coats between the tines of the fork right down to the end, it is ready to bottle. If it is slipping and sliding off, give it a little more time.
-
Step 3
Instead of a fork, you can slip a cold metal spoon into the boiling mixture. Lift the spoon up and out over the pan.
-
Step 4
Keep it out of the steam so you can see. Twisting the spoon, watch the liquid run down the side. The jelly will form two drops that will join together and slowly fall. This is another indication that the jelly is ready to be poured into the jelly jars.
-
Step 5
Start filling those clean jars. Make sure to do this while the jelly is hot, but be careful to use oven mitts or a cloth so you won't burn yourself. You can get burned right through the glass of the bottles.
