Jock itch is a fungal infection that occurs in warm moist areas of skin like the groin, butt and inner thighs. Jock itch isn't a serious condition, but it does cause itching and discomfort.

Identify the rash. Jock itch is a red ring shaped rash that can be very itchy. You may have a burning sensation on your inner thighs, anus and genitals.

Check yourself for athlete's foot or other fungal infections. Frequently jock itch is caused by another fungal infection that has spread to your groin. Make sure that you treat other infections at the same time you get treatment for jock itch.

Visit your doctor if you suspect that your rash is jock itch. Your doctor will be able to properly diagnose your jock itch. He may do a culture or a skin scraping to rule out other skin disorders, such as psoriasis or eczema.

Use the medication for the full length of time to ensure that it goes away completely. Make sure that you keep the area that is affected clean and dry to speed the recovery time.

Return to your doctor if your rash doesn't get better after 2 weeks, or it goes away and comes back.

Tips & Warnings
Jock itch is contagious so make sure that you change your bed sheets and avoid sharing towels or clothing so you don't spread it to others.
Prevent jock itch from recurring by applying talc powder to your inner thighs and other skin folds. Powder will absorb perspiration and help you stay dry.
