AOL Web Suite makes it easy to send a text message if you don't have a cell phone or don't want to pay for the privilege. It's all a part of AOL Instant Messenger. There are a couple of ways you can go about sending a text message using AOL Web Suite.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the AOL website and install AOL Instant Messenger on your computer if you don't yet have it. Register for an account by choosing a user name and password.

  2. Step 2

Go to the "Buddy List" and add your friend as a contact. Enter his mobile phone number under the contact details.

  3. Step 3

Open the contact on the "Buddy List" that you want to text. Click on the cell phone icon and write your message. Click "Send."

  4. Step 4

Add the cell phone number as the screen name for your recipient if she doesn't have an AOL account. In the contact description field you can enter her name. Just click "Send an IM," and on the form choose "Send a Text Message."

  5. Step 5

Send a text message to someone who may not be a regular contact. Just enter "+1 and the 10 digit cell phone number" into the screen name field. The person will receive the text and can send one back by clicking the "Reply" button.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your recipient may be charged for text messages if he doesn't have the unlimited text message feature on his phone. Consider those charges when you send text messages to anyone.
