How to Play Matchmaker to Christian Friends

Playing matchmaker to Christian friends is in most ways like matchmaking other friends. But in addition to reasons such as similar interests and backgrounds that would normally urge you to play matchmaker, you also have to understand the concepts about dating and marriage that most Bible-believing Christians hold.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know that both people you want to introduce to one another are Christians. It's a quality that's at the top of the priority list that a strong Christian looks for in someone to potentially date, and it's non-negotiable for most.

  2. Step 2

Be sure that they have things in common outside of the fact that they are both Christians. Introducing someone who has several cats to someone who is severely allergic isn't going to work no matter what their religious convictions. Having similar hobbies, or working in the same industry are good places to start.

  3. Step 3

Affirm that both parties are interested in being introduced to someone you think they'd like. Sometimes people aren't interested in dating at the present time for a variety of reasons.

  4. Step 4

Think about making their first meeting in a group setting. Inviting them and a few other people for a dinner party can make the evening much less stressful than if you sent them out on their own. If there isn't any chemistry, it'll be much easier for them to manage in a group setting.

  5. Step 5

Allow the relationship to flourish or flounder without any more input from you. Your responsibility ended when you introduced them. Let them get to know each other and determine if it's something they want to continue to pursue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't blindside one or both parties by inviting them to a gathering with the sole purpose of introducing them without telling them in advance.
