How to Use Word 2007 Language Translation

In these times of quick and easy international communication, it becomes increasingly necessary to translate certain documents for those of other cultures and languages. While we don't all have on-call access to professional translators, word-processing programs have tried to fill the need. Word 2007 is one such program.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Determine which text you want to translate. You can write it in the moment, or bring a text to the screen that you've had prepared for some time.
Step2
Check your document for proper spelling and grammar in English, if that is your source language. The way that you write in the source language will affect the way the translator "reads" your text into the target language.
Step3
Go to the "review" tab on the top of the screen in your Word 2007 page. Find the tab, then, that says "translate."
Step4
Select the portion of the text that you want to translate. If you want to select the whole text, and you have a long document, go back to the "edit" tab and click "select all." Otherwise, highlight it by clicking your left mouse button and dragging across the text you want to select. Then click on the "translate" tab.
Step5
Look at the window that opens on the side. The translator may be defaulted to Spanish or some other common language, and you will see that translation immediately provided. If you want to translate the text into a different language, choose, in the "to" box, from the drop-down menu, a different language, and the text will be immediately translated into that language. Word 2007 has done great work in providing its users with this method of translating.

Tips & Warnings

  • True translation requires skill, knowledge of cultural references, and a certain sense of artistry on the part of the translator. There is no computer translator that can do the job perfectly well, and your translation may be seriously lacking in meaning and depth. Be ready for requests for clarification from those you send the translation to.
