One of the oldest forms of alternative medicine, iridology is a holistic approach to health that focuses on the eye. An iridologist examines and analyzes the iris to detect health problems and the possibility of problems in the future. See an iridologist in your area for a non-invasive approach to better health.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand that an iridologist does not diagnose disease; he analyzes the iris to determine deficiencies and tendencies for certain health problems. Nutrition is key in iridology as the iridologist can analyze what you are lacking nutritionally and offer advice on how to improve your overall health. Only a medical doctor can properly diagnose disease.

  2. Step 2

Know that iridology is preventative health care and offers a painless way of early detection for certain health problems. An iridologist believes that every organ of the body has a connection to the eye and by studying the patterns and colors of the iris, weakness and strength of the organs can be assessed.

  3. Step 3

Find an iridologist in your area. Look in the Yellow Pages of your phone book under alternative medicines or search online. Make sure the iridologist your choose is certified.

  4. Step 4

Expect a series of high-resolution pictures to be taken of your iris and sclera (the white part of your eye) for the iridologist to analyze. The pictures immediately show up on a computer screen. The iridologist talks with you about what he sees and explains the analysis of your iris.

  5. Step 5

Offer a history of your medical health to the iridologist. Information such as past illnesses, current ailments, bowel regularity and nutrition help the iridologist analyze the iris.

  6. Step 6

Create a preventative health plan with the iridologist. A plan focused on nutrition is made based on your iris analysis. A balanced diet full of the nutrients you've lacked is designed to improve your overall health and prevent future illness.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remove contact lenses--especially tinted contact lenses--before your appointment with an iridologist.
  • Iridology is generally not a covered service under most medical insurance plans. Find out how much a visit to the iridologist is going to cost you before your appointment and ask about payment procedures.
  • Iridology is a debatable practice that many medical doctors denounce.
