How to View Archived Pictures Using CDisplay

CDisplay is a handy little program that lets you view pictures inside archive files. Originally, CDisplay was designed to view archived comic books, but it can also be used to view any sort of archived picture. It does this without any sort of invasive programming or bulky installations. It can use pictures archived in zip, rar, ace or tar format. CDisplay will display information files (commonly written as nfo files) upon loading the images; a feature that's very useful for cataloging family photos or other image collections.

Instructions

      Download and install the CDisplay program. The installation is a normal Windows installation; it asks where you want the program, if you want a desktop icon, and if you want a start menu group. For most basic CDisplay functions you do not need a start menu group or a desktop icon so you can say "no" to those if you want.

      Make a viewable archive using any standard archiving program. CDisplay will allow you to open files made with most standard archiving programs. Check the extension of the file made by your archive, if it is zip, rar, ace or tar you should be fine.

      Change the files extension to a compatible CDisplay extension. If prompted to verify the change click "yes." CDisplay uses the following extensions cdz, cbr, cba and cbt. These extensions all work interchangeably but are designed for the user's convenience. For instance, if you have a rar file that you wish to change the extension of you change it to cbr so you can remember what sort of file it is. If extension is correct it will change the icon of your archive to look like a talk bubble.

      Double-click the icon to open your archive. You can use the mouse wheel or the Page Up and Page Down keys to navigate through your pictures.

      Right click anywhere on the display to open the program menu. You can use this to quickly access program functions, quickly move through the images in your archive or access the options menu. From the options you can change the number of images displayed at the same time, change what the mouse buttons do and so on.

      Press the "Esc" key when you are done to exit the program.
