The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War (DUVCW) is a women's organization dedicated to preserving Civil War heritage. A woman who can prove lineal descent to a Union Veteran is eligible to join the daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Step1
Research your family tree to determine if you have an ancestor who was a Union veteran of the Civil War.
Step2
Visit the DUVCW website for contact information for you local Tent. A Tent is a local group named after an Army nurse who served during the Civil War.
Step3
Call or email the contact person listed for your local Tent. This person can assist you with determining the required paperwork needed for membership, which can include your ancestor's military records and birth and death certificates for your lineage. It's necessary to show how each generation is connected.
Step4
To join the DUVCW private invitation is not necessary. All women who are eligible are encouraged to apply.
Step5
To be eligible for membership lineal descent is required. Adoption doesn't qualify.
Step6
Gather the required documents. Keep copies for your records.
Step7
Locate as many records as possible. Obituaries, family records and even oral history can provide you with enough clues to use when trying to determine birth and death dates of your ancestors. Use this information to request birth and death certificates for your ancestors in they states they resided.
