Italian cooking is one of the most enjoyable cultures to cook for. Regardless of the flavors of the food, if you are unfamiliar with the process and the terminology used to create the food, you are lost in a world you don't understand. Use these steps to learn ways to understand Italian cooking terminology to make great Italian food.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take an Italian cooking class. The best way to learn any language or new concept is to immerse yourself in the culture and process. In an Italian cooking class you will be working with the terminology, which helps you remember the information in a practical way. Many culinary schools offer Italian cuisine as an option, but are not available to the public, so check with a community college or local caterer instead.

  2. Step 2

Find a great Italian cookbook. Most cookbooks will have a section in them for terminology and technique. Check out "The Classic Italian Cook Book: The Art of Italian Cooking" and the "Italian Art of Eating" by Marcella Hazan. These are available at Amazon and most major book retailers.

  3. Step 3

Take a trip to Italy. As mentioned in the first step, the best way to learn a new culture or process is to immerse yourself in it. There are many companies that offer trips to Italy with a cooking class built into the experience. Villa Gaia is one such company offering Tuscany cooking tours.

  4. Step 4

Buy Italian cooking videos. This is a great cost effective way to learn Italian cooking terminology without the expense of a class or International trip. Total Vid is a great place to find Italian cooking videos that you can download to your PC.
