How to Act Ethically

To act ethically means choosing to do the things that you know are right or good and avoiding those behaviors that are wrong or bad. A person who acts ethically is one with a good set of morals. They act ethically because they are a moral person, not to gain something in return or avoid punishment for unethical behavior.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Empathise with another. Put yourself in the other person's shoes and understand how they are feeling. Treat other people the way you would like to be treated.

  2. Step 2

    Demonstrate selflessness. Do not be selfish and put yourself before others. Do the right thing even when it might not be what you really want to do.

  3. Step 3

    Be fair. Ethical people are compassionate and caring. They are always honest and fair when dealing with others.

  4. Step 4

    Respect another's opinions and choices even when you disagree with them.

  5. Step 5

    Value nature. Do not view it as only a resource for sustaining life, but as a life force in and of itself.

  6. Step 6

    Act responsibly. Be a trustworthy and responsible person that others can rely on.

Tips & Warnings
  • Having morals and living by your morals can be 2 different things. To act ethically you must not only have a well developed sense of of morals, but also consider your morals when making decisions in your daily life.
  • Ethics can vary from one person to the next. Ethics can also vary among different cultures, religions, nationalities and professions. What one person considers right and wrong might be different from what another person considers right and wrong.
